Description
Tamiya - Military Miniature Series - No. 376 - American Tank Destroyer - 35376
Product Description
The M18 Hellcat was a tank destroyer developed by the U.S. Army during World War II to counter powerful German tanks like the Tiger and Panther. It featured an open-top turret prioritizing visibility, armed with a high-powered 76mm tank gun. To maximize turret space, the main gun's loading mechanism was laid out with the barrel rotated 45 degrees around its axis. Furthermore, the compact hull pursued weight reduction, incorporating an automatic transmission and torsion bar suspension—a first for American tanks. Powered by a radial 9-cylinder gasoline engine mounted at the rear, it achieved a top speed exceeding 80 km/h (50 mph), making it the fastest tracked vehicle of World War II. Production of the Hellcat began in July 1943, with its combat debut on the Italian front in 1944. It subsequently saw action in Northwest Europe and the Pacific Theater, utilizing its high speed and firepower in hit-and-run tactics to destroy German tanks one after another. As the spearhead of anti-tank combat, it contributed significantly to the American victory.
This is a 1/35 scale plastic model assembly kit of the M18 Hellcat. **Overall length: 192mm, Overall width: 80mm. Based on research of the actual vehicle, it faithfully recreates the sleek, powerful style featuring a low-profile hull mounting a formidable 76mm tank gun. **The turret interior features a dense arrangement of details, including the main gun loading mechanism, ammunition racks, radio, and turret ring gear. **The texture of the canvas cover mounted on the glacis is also realistically rendered. **The headlight lenses are clear parts. **The complex suspension system incorporates integrated parts for easier assembly. **The single-pin type tracks feature straight sections as one-piece links. **Includes one full-body standing tank crewman figure and two sets of markings for vehicles deployed on the Italian front during the latter stages of the war. ※This product is a plastic model kit requiring assembly and painting. ※Additional items such as glue, tools, and paint are required for assembly and painting. ※“Plastic Model” is a registered trademark owned by the Japan Plastic Model Manufacturers Association.
