The Mitsubishi F-2 is a support jet fighter for the Japan Air Self-Defense Force.
The Japan Air Self-Defense Force has relied on the F-15J interceptor fighter to defend against threats such as fighter jets and bombers. It has maintained a defense posture where threats such as ships and tanks are countered by the F-1 fighter aircraft. The F-2 is the aircraft jointly developed by Japan and the United States as the successor to this F-1. Initially called the FS-X during development, this aircraft is based on the F-16 and incorporates the latest technologies available today. Its external features include a fuselage and main wings slightly larger than the F-16, an enlarged radome to house the new radar, and a three-section canopy designed to handle bird strikes during low-altitude flight.
Carbon-based composite materials, a world-renowned Japanese technology, are used in various parts of the airframe, including the wings, contributing to reduced aircraft weight.
Additionally, CCV technology, incorporating findings from the T-2CCV experimental aircraft, was implemented. The F-2 is the first JASDF aircraft to adopt fly-by-wire side sticks, ensuring safety and superior flight performance.
The F-2B is currently deployed at Matsushima Air Base and Misawa Air Base, serving as a trainer and familiarization aircraft for the F-2.
Decals are included for two variants: an aircraft belonging to the 21st Squadron, 4th Air Wing (Matsushima Air Base) and an aircraft belonging to the 3rd Squadron, 3rd Air Wing (Misawa Air Base).
