The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force's Escort Squadrons are fleets of eight destroyers each, operating under the Self-Defense Fleet and Escort Fleet.
They are stationed at four bases: Yokosuka, Sasebo, Maizuru, and Kure. Around 1998, an Escort Squadron consisted of three groups of two to three destroyers each, plus one directly controlled vessel. The 1st Escort Squadron is based in Yokosuka.
