The second release in the 1/3000 scale Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force series features the 3rd Escort Flotilla based in Maizuru and the 4th Escort Flotilla based in Kure. features the combination of the escort vessels “Hyūga,” “Atago,” and “Myōkō,” deployed to guard the Sea of Japan.
The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force's Escort Group is a fleet of eight escort vessels each, operating under the Self-Defense Fleet and Escort Fleet. They are deployed across four locations: Yokosuka, Sasebo, Maizuru, and Kure. Each group consists of two squadrons, each with four destroyers.
The 3rd Escort Group is based in Maizuru. It is a unit whose ships frequently make headlines for their deployments in their assigned area of responsibility, the Sea of Japan.
The Haruna, which once conducted maritime security operations against suspicious vessels, has been decommissioned. The Myōkō, which also participated in those operations at the time, remains deployed as a mainstay of the 3rd Squadron alongside the reinforced Aegis destroyer Atago.
The 3rd Squadron comprises the 3rd Escort Squadron and the 7th Escort Squadron, with the former based in Maizuru and the latter in Ōminato.
