Pit-Road 1/700 Skywave Series Imperial Japanese Navy Aircraft Carrier Chiyoda Plastic Model W256
Like her sister ship Chitose, Chiyoda was initially completed in 1938 as a seaplane tender, with future conversion to an aircraft carrier considered. Subsequently, only Chiyoda underwent conversion into a Type A Target Ship. Following the loss of four aircraft carriers at once during the Battle of Midway in 1942, the conversion of both ships into aircraft carriers was finally decided. She was completed the following December as a light aircraft carrier capable of carrying 30 aircraft. After her carrier conversion, she served in convoy escort duties. Following participation in the Battle of the Philippine Sea in June of the following year, she was sunk in the Battle of Leyte Gulf in October after being hit by fire from the U.S. cruiser force, despite returning fire with her anti-aircraft guns.
