Micro Ace “1/72 Scale Great War Aircraft Series Imperial Japanese Navy Fighter Mitsubishi A6M2 Zero-Type Carrier-Based Fighter Model 21” Plastic Model Kit. On March 16, 1939, the first A6M1 prototype equipped with the Hanzō 13 engine (takeoff output 780 horsepower) was completed.
Subsequently, the engine was replaced with the 940 horsepower takeoff output Honki 12 engine.
An increased number of prototype aircraft (A6M2) were produced with modifications to the tail surfaces and layout. Following evaluation, it was formally adopted as the Zero-Type Carrier-Based Fighter Model 11 on July 24, 1940.
The Zero Carrier-Based Fighter Model 21 featured folding wing tips derived from this Model 11 and was formally adopted on December 4, 1940.
Combining armament, range, and aerial combat performance, this Model 21 was the most successful and invincible variant among the early Zero fighters.
