Micro Ace - Warplane Series - Kawanishi K5Y1 Type 93 Intermediate Trainer - Plastic Model Kit
Micro Ace “1/72 Scale Great War Aircraft Series Imperial Japanese Navy Trainer Akatonbo Kawanishi K5Y1 Type 93 Intermediate Trainer” Plastic Model Kit. The Type 93 Land-Based Intermediate Trainer was an improved design of the Type 91 Intermediate Trainer, developed to bridge the gap between 100-horsepower basic trainers and 500-horsepower combat aircraft. Affectionately known as the “Red Dragonfly,” it was one of the Navy's representative trainers, famously flown by nearly every Imperial Japanese Navy aircrew member. Its exceptional stability and handling earned it formal adoption in January 1934. Production continued into around 1945, reaching a total of approximately 5,600 aircraft (including seaplane variants).
Towards the end of World War II, it was also used as a kamikaze aircraft.
