Description
Micro Ace - Warplane Series - Asahi Shimbun - Communication Reconnaissance Aircraft - Plastic Model

Micro Ace “1/72 Scale Warplane Series Asahi Shimbun Mitsubishi Gankyo Kamikaze (Asakaze) Communication Reconnaissance Aircraft” plastic model.
In spring 1937, Asahi Shimbun planned a goodwill flight to Britain for the coronation of Emperor George VI and requested the Army provide a suitable aircraft.
At the time, Mitsubishi had completed a prototype that would later become the Type 97 Reconnaissance Aircraft. Test flights recorded a top speed of 480 km/h, and a second prototype was completed in March 1937.
As mass production was scheduled to begin in May of that year, the two completed prototypes were designated as test aircraft. The recently completed second prototype was sold to the Asahi Shimbun Company and, through a public contest, named “Kamikaze”.
