Micro Ace “1/72 Scale Great War Aircraft Series Imperial Japanese Navy Reconnaissance Aircraft Mitsubishi C5M2 98 Land Reconnaissance Type 12” Plastic Model Kit. This was an upgraded version fitted with the more powerful “Sakae” Model 12 engine (takeoff output 940hp), formally adopted in July 1941. The power increase necessitated a change from a two-bladed to a three-bladed propeller. While maximum speed improved to 487 km/h at 4,550 m, range decreased to 1,111 km. The key external distinguishing feature from the Model 11 was the air intake located on the underside of the engine cowling.
The Type 12 was the primary variant used during the Pacific War.
Production numbers were 20 Type 11s and 30 Type 12s.
