Product Introduction
Completed in March 2009 under the FY2004 plan, the SS-501 “Sōryū” became the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force's first AIP (Air-Independent Propulsion) submarine by adopting a Stirling engine in addition to its diesel engines.
Furthermore, its X-rudder—a first for the JMSDF—and the streamlined sail base give it a distinct appearance, setting it apart from conventional JMSDF submarines.
Includes decals for the hull numbers and names of all 12 vessels from SS-501 “Sōryū” through SS-511 ‘Ōryū’ (completed March 2020) and SS-512 “Tōryū” (scheduled for completion March 2021).
